Abstract
We have been working on a variety of applied control problems. Firstly automotive engine management systems have to meet very stringent performance, emissions and efficiency specifications over an extremely wide operating range. Secondly wellbore drilling in the oil and gas industry has to perform in extraordinarily harsh, varied and often sensitive environments. Thirdly thermo-acoustic oscillations can occur in the combustion in gas turbines. We have been engaged in these areas and the control issues will be outlined and their intersection with currently available theories and design methodologies discussed.
