Abstract
The Galileon model has proved of great interest to the study of both inflation and the late time accelerated expansion of the universe. The model is also closely connected to new, and ghost free, theories of massive gravity. It is potentially worrying, however, that superluminal fluctuations are quite generic in these models, and it has been speculated that such superluminal fluctuations could be used to build closed time-like curves. General relativity contains a mechanism, known as the Hawking Chronology Protection Conjecture, which prevents the formation of closed time-like curves. I will review how this occurs, and show that the mechanism can be extended to theories, such as the Galileon, which have more than one effective metric and superluminal fluctuations.
