Quantum Tunnelling Splittings from Ring-Polymer Instanton Theory
- đ¤ Speaker: Adam Reid (CUC3)
- đ Date & Time: Friday 28 October 2011, 12:30 - 13:00
- đ Venue: Pfizer Lecture Theatre, Department of Chemistry
Abstract
This talk provides a brief overview of how the Feynman path integral expression for the partition function can be used to calculate quantum tunnelling splittings. The ‘ring polymer’ isomorphism and the ‘instanton’ solutions to the equations of motion will also be covered. The talk will close with a discussion of the application of these ideas to water clusters.
Series This talk is part of the Extra Theoretical Chemistry Seminars series.
