Abstract
Regulation of body weight has a very strong genetic and evolutionary component. In the current context of ‘obesity epidemic’, it becomes vital to disentangle the contribution of gene variation on body weight, from that of complex environmental influences. There have been significant advances in genomic technologies in recent years, aiding our understanding of human genetic variation. Applying these new technologies to find novel genes for body size will be presented, and current understanding of the biology of weight regulation will be discussed.
