Local Practices for a Global Society: Applying Sustainability in Universities

This years GreenBRIDGE Summer School involved students, academics and professionals who were interested in exploring sustainability in practice and contribute towards the improvement of educational buildings. It introduced in particular the issues of conservation and energy management in cultural heritage, using the historic buildings of Cambridge as case studies. Other key issues addressed included: renewable technologies, water consumption, waste management, social and behavioural issues, knowledge transfer in research & industry and public engagement.

The variety of building age, form and construction in the higher education sector provides a unique challenge in reducing the environmental impact of the UK’s building stock. Case studies in colleges and departments, informed by lectures, seminars and workshops allowed coming up with conclusions.

This session will provide an overiew of the summer school and present the results for each of the case studies. It will also include discussions about the outcomes to take forward for next years GreenBRIDGE main event.
