Abstract
The “Problem of Evil” is often treated by Anglo-American philosophers as a timeless propositional conundrum around the “Inconsistent Triad”: God is omnipotent, God is omniscient, God is benevolent. In this talk I attempt to reconnect the Problem of Evil to its wider context in contemporary thought (Max Weber), in contemporary philosophy (Susan Nieman), in religion in general, and in Christianity in particular. I argue that the Inconsistent Triad is best understood as a failed Thought Experiment, and that God, no less than the Devil, is in the detail.
