Carbon sequestration in forests.

Abstract
The world’s forests currently act as a major carbon sink, offsetting a large proportion of emissions arising from land-use change and the burning of fossil fuels. A key question is whether forests will continue to act as a sink in the coming decades and centuries. I will explore this question using detailed information collected over 30 years in New Zealand forests, and consider the wider implications of our work. I will also discuss how airborne remote sensing technology is making it much easier to monitor forests at the landscape scale.
