Structural Engineering of the Shard

Abstract
Designed by structural engineers WSP and architect Renzo Piano for Sellar Properties, the Shard comprises 28 storeys of offices, 12 storeys of apartments, six storeys of restaurants and an 18 storey hotel. It is surmounted by a 60m tall spire, containing a public viewing gallery, bringing the height to 310m.The talk will concentrate on the structural aspects of the Shard: its design, construction and unusual features.
Roma is a Senior Engineer at WSP London and has worked as part of the structural team on the Shard for over five years. Other project experience includes Crystal Palace Station Enhancement and Northumbria University Footbridges.
