Abstract
Ceramic armour is currently used to protect personnel, vehicles and aircraft from ballistic attack. In this lecture, we will review how ceramic-armour design has evolved over the years and examine the physics of projectile / target interaction. How our understanding of the projectile / target interaction mechanics can enhance the protective capability of these structures will also be reviewed.
