Screen-printable energetic inks for mining detonators

Abstract
A pyrotechnic mixture has been printed with a screen printing technique. The ink could be used as a delayline material for mining detonators. The thick ink possesses a self-sustainable burn when screen-printed and dried. The ink rheology can be altered by for example changing its solvent content or modifying the pyrotechnic. The effect of the changes on the functional properties has been demonstrated with thermal analysis and a high-speed imaging technique. The burning reaction can be initiated with heat. Alternatively, an ignition element which is printed on the energetic line enables shock-tube initiation of the line.
