This seminar will look at the theoretical base of a sociocultural understanding of the role culture plays in the values and beliefs of individuals and groups and how this understanding can assist educators and policy makers in defining and developing inclusive practice within educational settings. My current research will then be presented in relationship to understanding how mediated learning experiences facilitated within a humanist inspired sociocultural approach can assist in developing the psychological architecture required to engage in rational and ethical decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution so that shared agendas can be developed within schools that promote learner engagement and inclusion allowing schools to overcome the influences of bigotry, violence and injustice.
