ON-CHIP DEBUG SUPPORT TO ADDRESS COMPLEXITY IN MULTIPE PROCESSOR SYSTEMS-ON-CHIP

Abstract
In complex Systems-on-Chip the external interfaces that were once used extensively for development purposes have moved on-chip, demanding new debugging methods. Increased time to market pressure combined with tough real-time and dependability requirements further increases the challenges of embedded systems development. Advanced on-chip debug support can help overcome these increasing challenges by providing features targeted specifically at real-time embedded systems. This talk overviews the state of the art for advanced on-chip debug support with reference to specific case studies exploring several different solutions to this debug challenge: the NEXUS standard and its mainstream implementation, the package sized ICE and finally a novel system centric solution that has been designed to address the challenge of debug support for application development targeted on complex multiple processor core Systems-on-Chips.
