Abstract
Cities account for approximately two-thirds of global primary energy demand and accordingly, there has been an increased focus on modelling urban energy supply and demand. In this talk, Dr. Keirstead will present some results from the BP Urban Energy Systems project at Imperial College London and look at what’s been happening in the field at large. The emerging picture is one of hybrid methodologies, specifically combining optimization and simulation techniques to develop an understanding of urban energy use from initial master planning through to daily operations.
