Universities have long been intelligence targets and their importance is increasing due to the greater collaboration between industry and academia. This partnership of public research institutions and private companies and the creation of new entities spun-out of universities presents unique challenges for the protection of commerical intellectual property against state sponsored espionage. This presentation will give an overview of the historical penetration of universities and companies from the cold war to the present day.
