Abstract
I will outline an evolutionary account of women’s less frequent and less severe involvement in acts of direct aggression. I will describe several studies in which we have focused on the proposed psychological mechanism (a lower threshold for fear response) and attempted to disentangle it from allied or subsidiary concepts such as impulsivity, sensation seeking, and approach / avoidance mechanisms.
