Towards an Integrated Model of Design
- π€ Speaker: Professor Amaresh Chakrabarti - Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India
- π Date & Time: Wednesday 04 July 2012, 16:00 - 17:00
- π Venue: Arthur Marshall Meeting Room (next to EDC loft), Inglis Building, Engineering Department
Abstract
Abstract: The talk discusses a model called SAP PhIRE. This model was originally created to model causality and explain how systems work. However, as it developed it proved possible to integrate many current models. This research has provided insights into how current ways of designing might be improved and, in particular, it has supported the development of new methods for supporting biomimetic ideation and creativity.
The talk will also touch on other research in the IdeasLab at the Indian Institute of Science including knowledge management, ecodesign, virtual reality for assembly, and design for emotions.
About the speaker: Amaresh Chakrabarti completed a Ph.D at the EDC 20 years ago (1992) before joining Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM) at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He is the founder and co-ordiantor of the IDeas Lab – a research team within the CPDM which has a broad research focus including issues relating to design creativity, design methodology, sustainability, collaborative innovation, knowledge and life cycle management.
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Design Centre series.
