Abstract
The age, composition and shifts in the provenance of ice rafted debris can potentially independently test models for the past evolution of ice sheets. Interpreting Antarctic derived material is, however, compromised by its largely unknown geology, an apparent lack of suitable provenance techniques and an incomplete understanding of subglacial processes. As shall be shown, possible solutions to these shortcomings can come through measuring the Pb isotopic composition of ice rafted feldspars. The resulting improved provenance signal can help identify regions where subglacial erosion has occurred but ultimately, any interpretation from ice rafted material must be treated with caution until the concealed geology is better understood.
