Abstract
Concordia station is one of only 3 bases in the interior of Antarctic that are crewed all-year round. For nine months of the year it is totally isolated, inacessible due to temperatures to low for vehicular access, and crewed by 14. Dr Eoin Macdonald-Nethercott lived and worked there for 15 months from the end of 2010 through to the beginning of 2012, conducting physiological research for the European Space Agency.
This talk aims to be a general description of the environment, the station, the science that is conducted there, and the reason why the European Space Agency is involved.
