Abstract
Bob Headland will talk about the history, effects, and current circumstances of exotic mammals in the Antarctic. Twenty-four species have been introduced to the peri-Antarctic islands and continent of Antarctica during over two centuries, with varying consequences. From the late 1900s eradication programmes have eliminated many species and regulations have been enacted to prevent new introductions. Currently major campaigns are being undertaken in South Georgia and Macquarie Island (‘deratication’).
