The human endometrium is a complex multi-cellular, sex steroid-dependent tissue located within the lumen of the uterus. The endometrium is a remarkable tissue that exhibits cyclical episodes of scarless healing, regeneration, and angiogenesis all processes considered features of developing tissues or cancers. Our studies are focused on studying the role of sex steroids and their receptors in regulation of angiogenesis, inflammation and tissue repair. We use both primary human tissue and novel mouse models. Our studies are shedding new light on the origins of disorders including endometriosis a condition associated with chronic pain and infertility.
