New observations in flavour physics and their implications Beyond the Standard Model

Abstract
Rare decays of B mesons (containing a b-quark and either an s- or d-antiquark) into two muons are highly suppressed in the Standard Model of particle physics and very sensitive to new-particle contributions from beyond the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry. The LHCb experiment has collected a huge amount of proton-proton collision data at the Large Hadron Collider and now has the sensitivity to observe these rare decays. We present some of the latest LHCb results and, in particular, the current status of the search for rare B decays.
