Abstract

We’re delighted to welcome Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society and Nobel prize-winning geneticist to speak in Cambridge on Thursday 13 December.

Sir Paul Nurse has been the President of the Royal Society since 1 December 2010. He is a geneticist who works on what controls the division and shape of cells. He was Professor of Microbiology at the University of Oxford, CEO of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and Cancer Research UK and President of Rockefeller University New York. He is currently Director and Chief Executive of the Francis Crick Institute.

Paul Nurse was awarded The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2001 jointly with Leland H. Hartwell and Tim Hunt “for their discoveries of key regulators of the cell cycle”. For more information about this work please see http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/2001/

He spoke at this Spring’s Richard Dimbleby Lecture on ‘the Wonder of Science’ and as this subject should resonate strongly throughout Cambridge, we’ve asked him to give a similar talk to our members this December.
