Abstract
By the van Est isomorphism, continuous cohomology of simple Lie groups vanishes in degree greater than the dimension of the associated symmetric space. In his ICM address 2006, Monod conjectured that a similar vanishing theorem should hold for continuous bounded cohomology. In this talk we will present an approach to this conjecture in the case of SL_2®, applying methods from harmonic analysis and partial differential equations. This is joint work with T. Hartnick.
