Abstract
The talk will examine reporting of two scandals: US Steel monopolistic practices and of the rise and fall of Ivar Krueger; in four American magazines: Fortune, Business Week, Nation and New Republic. The primary focus is on the two business magazines. Business Week saw publication in September 1929, while Fortune had its first issue in February 1930. The paper interrogates the repertoire of economic representation of the 1920s and 1930s and asks how the burgeoning economic journalism found a voice in Depression America.
