Coherent control of Rydberg atoms in thermal vapor cells

Abstract
The coherent excitation, control and detection of mesoscopic ensembles of Rydberg atoms are key requisites for proposed quantum devices such as integratable gates and single-photon sources [1]. While to date most experimental progress has been limited to ultracold atoms, our results demonstrate that microcells at room temperature are robust and promising candidates for investigating strongly interacting Rydberg gases, and for applications where scalability plays a role.
