From Mars to the Multiverse

Abstract
I will describe some recent observational highlights, starting with our Solar System, and continuing with the discovery that many (perhaps most) stars are orbited by planets. I will then discuss what can be inferred about cosmic evolution from various probes of the distant and early universe, and conclude with speculations about whether the observable domain that astronomers call ‘the universe’ could be just a tiny fraction of space-time.
Lord Rees has recently left the post of the Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. Among numerous honours he received for his work on astrophysics, he was the Director of the Institute of Astronomy (Cambridge), President of the Royal Society and President of the Royal Astronomical Society, and holds the post of Astronomer Royal.
This is an outreach talk, and therefore FREE FOR EVERYONE !
