Abstract
On 24 April, 16:30-18:30, Dr John Raven will be giving a talk on ‘Education, values and society’ at Downing College in Cambridge. Aimed at anyone with a deep interest in education, the talk will be interesting to experts and non-experts alike, tackling issues such as the difference between ‘learning’ and ‘learning content’ and what we value in education as a society.
Research has shown that the nurturing of high level competencies in pupils such as initiative, problem solving ability, the ability to work with others, and the ability to play an active part in society is viewed as highly desirable. Yet within the current educational system this nurturing is often eschewed in favour of more conventional tests to the detriment of both pupils and society.
Organised by the Cambridge Assessment Network, the event is free to attend and is open to all members of the public. Read more about the talk and register to attend to help us shape the debate.
Series This talk is part of the Current Issues in Assessment series.
