Abstract
Future energy networks face the significant challenge of integrating inherently intermittent and variable renewable power generation while maintaining a high degree of security of supply. The talk will explore a simple stochastic model for large scale fast response storage together with slow-to-moderate ramping generators in a potential future energy system with a high degree of wind penetration. The talk will consider the trade-offs between various system performance measures including wind spill and the loss of load probability.
