This will discuss the issues within our fulfilment business with regard to decision making when faced with a large number of variables. Often it is not possible to create an optimal solution, and even if it were it is not practical to compute it in a fast changing environment. We are looking for ways in which we can increase productivity by making adaptive changes, in response to continually changing inputs and resources. Distributed intelligence has many potential benefits for us by being able to make small, light weight decisions in a hierarchical manner.
