QCD : an analytical approach.

Abstract
We discuss how we have exploited our insight into the theory of strong interactions (QCD) to develop powerful analytical methods that are crucial to obtain precise predictions for high energy collider experiments. Such predictions have in turn been used to firmly establish QCD as the fundamental theory of strong interactions, and more generally the standard model of particle physics. Given the current focus on discoveries at the large hadron collider (LHC) at CERN and the importance of understanding QCD therein, we give particular emphasis to the significant challenges posed by the complex LHC physics environment. We argue that these challenges are being met and demonstrate, using specific examples, how our analytical techniques are central to delivering both high precision standard model calculations as well as forging the best possible discovery tools for new physics at the LHC .
