Abstract
Sustainable consumption and production requires significant changes in the way production processes function, supply chains are organised, distribution and retail networks operate and consumer needs are met. This paper presents a methodology for identifying the carbon emissions ‘induced’ directly and indirectly in the economy as a result of the final demand for consumer goods and services. It presents the results of a pilot exercise for the UK economy and discusses the implications for manufacturing and for the development of new, more sustainable business models.
