Improving Time-of-Flight Range Data Quality

Abstract
Current Time-of-Flight (ToF) approaches mainly incorporate a continuous wave intensity modulation principle. The phase reconstruction is performed using multiple phase images with different phase shifts which is equivalent to sample the inherent correlation function at different locations. However, this principle leads to a large variety of measurement error sources which all have an effect on the resulting depth quality.
This talk presents recent results in handling such error sources to improve ToF range data quality, using specific calibration models. For error sources that are scene dependent, such as so called motion artefacts that occurs on dynamic scenes, low level processing of ToF data is required.
