Inkjet Printing: Status and Future Challenges

Abstract
The recently-established Inkjet Research Centre at the Department of Engineering is supported by EPSRC and a consortium of eight industrial partners. Its aim is to develop an improved understanding of generic problems associated with fluid-nozzle interactions in the widely-applicable industrial process of inkjet printing. Academic partners in the project include the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge, as well as the Universities of Manchester, Leeds, Durham and Aberystwyth. The talk will focus on the basic principles underlying continuous and drop-on-demand printing methods, and recent high-speed imaging work carried out at the Inkjet Centre.
