There’s been some philosophical interest lately in ‘knowing-wh’, and related constructions, and some of this has been driven by broadly linguistic considerations. But it is very unclear just what the rules governing these constructions are. The data are complex:

She knew where he’d left it She realized where he’d left it She thought/believed where he’d left it She wondered where he’d left it She hoped where he’d left it She couldn’t think where he’d left it She couldn’t believe where he’d left it

I’ll examine various proposals about which propositional attitude verbs take wh-constructions, and about what the philosophical significance of these is, and with luck, and help, may even come to some conclusions.
