This talk will describe how analytical science can be used to confirm the provenance of works of art.

Dr. Nicholas Eastaugh is a scientific consultant specialising in the analysis of fine art and other historical objects. He has a background in physics and is also a graduate of the Courtauld Institute of Art as well as being an honorary fellow of the Research Laboratory for Archeology and the History of Art, Oxford University. He has recently set up the Pigmentum Project (see www.pigmentum.org) an interdisciplinary research group studying historical pigments, as well as publishing two books under the general title The Pigment Compendium (Elsevier, 2004).

This event was jointly organised by the SCI and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Analytical Division & Mid-Anglia Section.
