Abstract
After 5 years of depression and unemployment, this crisis will be remembered not by how hard it hit us but by how long it lasted. Indeed, the economic recovery remains a light far far away at the end of a tunnel.
How have we reached this point ? What are the historical factors that lead us here ?
Can modern day policy makers learn from past experience in confronting these challenges ? How did we adress similar situations in the past ?
In this exceptional lecture, Prof. Crafts and Dr. Solomou, two of the most renowned economic historians of our time, will replace the current crisis in historical perspective, adress whether historical comparisons are relevant and try to discern lessons from past experience in our economic history for the current situation.
