Equivalency of the Effects of Time and Temperature on the Mechanical Response of a PBX

Abstract
The compressive mechanical strength of the polymer bonded explosive EDC37 has been studied over a wide range of strain rates (10-8 to 10+3 s-1 at 298 K) and temperatures (208 to 333 K at 10-3 s-1). The results reveal that the response of EDC37 is dominated by the viscoelastic properties of its binder system. An empirically derived expression will be presented that quantifies the equivalence of changes in strain rate and temperature.
