Abstract

As the temperature slowly plummets, the Screen Media Group warmly invite you to ‘Forgetting Forgetting’, a talk on found footage by filmmaker and critic Sarah Wood. Besides heading up the viral media company Unruly Media, Sarah Wood’s work includes ‘I Want to be a Secretary’ (2007) and ‘Three-Minute Warning’ (2012)

‘Forgetting forgetting’: What does the archive mean in relation to the use and re-use of documentary footage? What is the relationship between recording and testimony in the act of witnessing? Here, Sarah Wood will discuss her own approach to working with found image and sound in the context of the documentary evidential and illustrate the talk with short works by herself and other contemporary artists.

This seminar will be the third installment in this year’s series on Mnemotechnics and the Archive, which considers the ways in which individual, institutional and social memories have been understood to relate to media forms that participate in their inscription, subversion, perpetuation and effacement.
