Abstract
Since Daubechies, Defrise and De Mol published their pioneering paper on sparsity constrained inverse problems in 2004, this topic has been the dominant theme in this field of applied analysis. We will review the basic ideas of this approach and discuss its extensions to non-linear problems.
The second part of the talk is devoted to applications in PDE based image processing and MALDI Imaging. MALDI imaging, which is an emerging hyperspectral technology in biomedical/pharmaceutical research, poses several mathematical challenges (structured denoising, clustering). Results from real data demonstrate the potential of sparsity based approaches in this field.
Series This talk is part of the Applied and Computational Analysis series.
