Jonathan Shanklin will describe some well-known historical comets before moving on to a few of the more memorable ones that he has observed, beginning with the infamous comet Kohoutek. We now have a good scientific understanding of comets, but pseudoscientists still have a field day when a bright one is forecast. He will explain how to observe comets and conclude with the prospects for the comet that has been heralded as The Comet of the Century.

Jonathan is a long-standing member of CUAS and was Obs Sec and Chairman when he was an undergraduate. He is our Senior Treasurer and is the Director of the BAA and SPA Comet Sections.
