Abstract
Human Resources for (primary) health care in Africa is a major challenge. The problem is situated at different levels: recruitment, training, retention. Different types of brain drain (internal, international intercontinental) threatens capacity building. Based on findings from Primafamed-network (www.primafamed.ugent.be) and the work of the EU-FP7 Huraprim-project (Human Resources for African Primary Care: http://www.huraprim.ugent.be), a broader analysis of the human resources program, especially in primary care will be presented. Moreover, the impact of actions coordinated by the team of Prof. De Maeseneer in the last 17 years will be illustrated. Finally, an African-wide strategy will be advocated for.
