Abstract
The production of gauge boson (W, Z, gamma) pairs provides a rich set of processes with which the Standard Model can be tested. Diboson processes are background for many processes predicted by many BSM models, making precise knowledge of their production cross sections very important for discovering new physics. Dibosons also serve as a good way for looking for new physics in a more general and model independent fashion via anomalous triple gauge couplings (aTGCs). This talk will focus on the production of pairs of Z bosons, and analysis via the decay channels ZZ->llvv, and ZZ->lll’l’. I will discuss the analysis in detail, describing event selection, background estimates and parameter extraction techniques leading up to a measurement of the ZZ cross section 7 TeV with 4.6 fb-1 of data with the ATLAS detector. I will also present unfolded spectra and limits on anomalous triple gauge coupling parameters. The status of the ZZ analysis at 8 TeV with 20.3 fb-1 will also be summarized. The talk will conclude with an overview of ATLAS electroweak results.
