Allosteric and genetic modulation of brain inhibition
- đ¤ Speaker: Prof Trevor Smart; Department of Neuroscience, Physiology & Pharmacology, University College London
- đ Date & Time: Thursday 27 February 2014, 16:00 - 17:00
- đ Venue: Hodgkin Huxley Seminar Room, Physiology Building, Downing Site
Abstract
Brain inhibition relies largely on inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors activated by GABA . Following an introduction on GABA receptors and inhibitory synapses, the presentation will focus on allosteric regulation of GABA receptors by naturally occurring molecules released in the brain – the neurosteroids. The second part will concentrate on genetic issues and how altered brain inhibition might contribute to alcoholism.
