Abstract
In recent years, motor racing has demonstrated some features of rubber friction. These include the need to match tyre to track, temperature sensitivity or performance, track changes with use and rain, and tyre wear. Also, particularly due to B.N.P. Persson, advances in the theory of rubber friction have been made. The theory will be outlined and related to what can be observed on the track.
