Abstract
The Ziegler spectrum of R is a topological space associated to the category R-Mod of (left) modules over a ring R. The aim of this talk is to introduce the spectrum with an emphasis on the points themselves – that is, the isomorphism types of indecomposable pure-injective R-modules.
Using an example from the representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras we hope to illustrate how the (infinite-dimensional) pure-injective modules often arise naturally alongside their finite-dimensional counterparts. This is one of the many properties that has motivated the study of pure-injective modules, and hence the Ziegler spectrum.
Series This talk is part of the Junior Algebra and Number Theory seminar series.
