A Three-Parameter Kinematic Theory for the Shear Behaviour of Continuous Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams

- đ Venue: Cambridge University Engineering Department, LR5
Abstract
Recent work at the University of Toronto has resulted in a new theory for the shear strength and deformation patterns of cracked reinforced concrete deep beams both simply supported and continuous. The primary author of this theory is Dr. Boyan Mihaylov, recently a post-doc in Toronto and who now teaches at the University of Liege in Belgium. The basics of the theory will be presented, detailed comparisons made to experiments and finally some interesting consequences of the theory will be explored. This theory attempts to provide an answer to the question of what the appropriate strain profiles in a beam will be when the well-known “plane sections remains plane” theory breaks down.
