Conflict-Sensitive Education (CSE) Training Seminar

This 2-hour training session is designed for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and students engaged with education, politics, and/or policymaking in contexts affected by violent conflict.

Using a global training module developed by the INEE (Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies), participants in this workshop will be introduced to the concepts, principles, and tools of “conflict-sensitive” educational planning and delivery. Drawing on international case studies, the session will include collaborative application of CSE tools to contemporary conflict contexts.

Key questions that will be addressed include:

- How may educational planning and delivery unintentionally contribute to conflict and violence?

- Through what strategies can educational planning and delivery processes mitigate conflict dynamics?

- How does “conflict-sensitive education” different from “peacebuilding education”?

- What wider relevance does “conflict-sensitivity” have for education in “non-fragile” contexts?

- What political and economic implications does the adoption of conflict-sensitive approaches to education have?

Evaluation of the training by participants will be used by the INEE to finalize the module ahead of its global launch in April 2014.

The training will be delivered by Sara Clarke-Habibi, a PhD candidate in Education and Gates Cambridge Scholar. Sara has more than 10 years’ experience working on education in conflict-affected contexts. She is an active member of the INEE and the Cambridge Peace and Education Research Group (CPERG).
