Abstract
The Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope is an instrument that is well-suited to in situ study of dynamic processes. This talk discusses the design and development of a micromanipulation system attached to a heating stage. The design of the system is challenging as the piezoelectric transducers in the micromanipulator system do not operate above temperatures exceeding 90C. The design of the stage has been analyzed by finite element methods and then verified by experimental testing. Results are presented of heating and combined heating and micromanipulation experiments on a number of alloy systems including aluminium alloy A201 and copper powders.
