Abstract
The cellular response to signals is frequently initiated by the reversible covalent post-translational modification (PTM) of present proteins, such as protein phosphorylation. A crucial point for understanding the information flow in cellular signaling is to define how the vast spectrum of PTMs are recognized by interacting molecules and how PTM -dependent alterations are coordinated in protein interaction networks that lead to signal propagation and dictate e.g. cellular cancer phenotypes.
