Abstract
Over the past two years I have been involved in setting up and running a small scale algal growth facility at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden. This is part of a network of pilot plants across the EU to test whether algae can be used as an economically viable bio-economy. I will present data on how we are using algae to bioremediate nitrate waste from industry, to using algae as a feedstock for Anaerobic Digestion plants and how we are using cold-adapted algae from Antarctica to increase biomass productivity in the UK winter months.
